You may have heard about the new ‘invisible brace‘ and wondered what it is all about. If you have teeth that are crowded, too far apart or have shifted since wearing conventional braces, Invisalign will give you a new reason to smile!
Because it is nearly invisible almost no one can tell you are wearing Invisalign, so you can smile more during as well as after your treatment. You can remove Invisalign so you can eat and drink what you like, and studies have shown that it can be better for your dental hygiene during treatment. With no metal or sharp edges, Invisalign is comfortable to wear and does not cause allergies. Angus has treated his wife with Invisalign which has given him a unique insight into what patients experience with this treatment.

How does Invisalign work?
Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign uses Angus’ instructions to create a series of custom made removable mouth trays (aligners). These aligners apply a controlled amount of force to your teeth, causing them to move. Each aligner is slightly different, moving your teeth gradually into the desired position.
How long will Invisalign treatment take?
Invisalign only works while you wear the aligners. Invisalign recommends they are worn full time day and night (min 22 hours per day). Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks, (before moving onto the next in the series), moving your teeth millimetre by millimetre, week by week, until you reach your desired result.
Treatment length will vary depending on your case, but the average Invisalign treatment is six to eighteen months. Once active treatment is complete, there may be some fine tuning to create that perfect smile.
Can Teenagers have Invisalign treatment too?
Yes, Invisalign has several treatment options available for teenagers, depending on the stage of teeth development. Some teenagers will be suitable for the same Invisalign treatment as adult patients. Younger teenagers, or those who haven’t got all of their adult teeth erupted can be treated with Invisalign Teen – a treatment designed specifically for teenagers. Angus will determine which treatment best suits your individual needs and the condition of your teeth.
What are the Advantages of Invisalign?
In addition to the aesthetic and comfort advantages, Invisalign offers a number of significant clinical benefits including:
- Predictable treatment, as Invisalign is planned in advance, Angus can more accurately predict when your treatment will be finished.
- Improved periodontal (gum) health through better dental hygiene during treatment.
- No metal allergies due to brackets or wires.

- Custom manufacture means a tailored match to your teeth, for reduced irritation and fewer scratches.
